Project Overview
An international railcar manufacturer needed high-precision 3D scanning of a locomotive truck to support engineering and CAD design for modernization of inactive rail assets. The end customer, one of the top U.S. locomotive companies, required detailed measurements to enable further design and planning.
With no U.S.-based scanning capabilities, the client selected Chief Engineering for the project due to competitive pricing, responsiveness, and clear communication. This project represented the largest scan completed by the team due to the size of the locomotive truck. A lead was on-site for two days, coordinating scanning operations and working closely with the client’s international design team.
Project Highlights
- Captured full-scale locomotive truck geometry.
- Delivered high-accuracy 3D scan data for engineering and CAD design.
- Efficient coordination across continents ensured smooth workflow and timely project
- completion.
- Selected over competing firms for responsiveness and quality of service.
- Strengthened company reputation as a trusted partner for large-scale rail projects.
Results & Impact
The precise scan data allowed the client to advance their engineering work efficiently while ensuring accuracy and compatibility. The timely and responsive delivery strengthened the relationship with the client and demonstrated our ability to handle extremely large-scale scans and complex international collaboration—something we look forward to continuing in the future with this client.
