Experience the Precision of 3D Scanning Services
Get Accurate Data for Your Next Project
With a wide range of use across industries, we offer terrestrial, aerial, and detailed-object 3D scanning technology that provides the most accurate drawings, designs, models, and plans of facilities, processes, equipment, and components.
Our 3D Scanning Options Are Customized to Fit Your Needs
Chief Engineering can provide accurate and detailed data by mapping exact locations and distances through 3D scanning technology. Avoid unexpected project delays by eliminating inaccurate measurements and/or unworkable solutions. Our facility and process mapping services provide an accurate scan and model of the exact conditions of your environment. When paired with other services, 3D laser scanning greatly enhances engineering design capabilities and accuracy.
Our terrestrial scanning services provide an accurate scan and model of your environment’s exact conditions. Our metrology specialist will scan and process your facility and through CAD models and 3D, we will have access to all dimensions without physically performing any measurements. This allows our engineers to model your design exactly as it will fit within the facility, ensuring no detail is missed.
How it works:
A series of scans is completed and registered in real-time with an accuracy of 1 mm at up to 230 feet. Once complete, the scans are rendered together with accuracy as tight as 1/32”.
Aerial scanning is used for dimensioning, live observations, inspections and surveillance, and project monitoring. When paired with our other engineering services, the information gathered from aerial surveying greatly enhances our engineering design capabilities. Our FAA-certified drone operators are eager to assist with your aerial scanning needs.
How it works:
The drone is equipped with a LiDAR camera which can produce up to 480,000 points per second. The LiDAR camera is accurate down to 10 cm horizontally and 5cm vertically at 50 meters. The drone also has a 20MP photogrammetry RGB camera that produces high-quality photos and videos.
Detailed-object scanning is the most effective and reliable way to acquire accurate 3D measurements of physical objects anywhere, generating incredibly accurate and repeatable results—even in difficult environments with complex surfaces.
How it works:
The Creaform HandyScan 3D delivers an accurate scan of 0.0025mm (0.0009 in) and a volumetric accuracy of 0.020 + 0.040 mm/m (0.0008 in + 0.0005 in/ft). This scanner features 11 laser crosses, a large scanning area with a measurement rate of up to 1.3M measurements/second, and an automatic mesh generation that produces ready-to-use files.
3D Scanning: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use 3D scanning to help perform reverse engineering?
3D reverse engineering services provide a scan of your product or component and provide you with models and drawings. The level of detail can range from general drawings for tolerance information to fabrication and shop drawings for product or component replication.
How can I use 3D scanning to test for compatibility and fit?
When parts are too tight, too loose, or have different tolerances, our compatibility and fit 3D scanning services can provide models, accurate fits, and tolerances to ensure parts mate exactly as intended.
How does 3D scanning help with quality control?
Our 3D scanning services allow you to compare products, components, and replacement parts against the certified part to verify that your new part is highly accurate and certified for use.
Can you use 3D scanning for jig and tooling applications?
Combined with reverse engineering and compatibility and fit services, our jig and tooling service can provide jigs for any application, including:
- Inspection jigs for inspection checks
- Component jigs for automation applications
- Assembly jigs for multiple parts
How much does 3D scanning cost?
Many factors affect the cost of 3D scanning making each project unique. Finding the right company for your project can be extremely difficult when all of their scanning services vary in price.
The main two factors that we base our prices off of include the complexity of the scanning process and the process of turning the scan into your desired format. We pride ourselves on providing our clients with the highest level of accuracy and detail in our 3D scanning so additional costs may be formulated to accommodate those factors.
How long does 3D scanning take and when will I get the results?
The scanning process depends on the object’s size, shape, and complexity. The amount of time required for the scanning and results all depends on the project type and requirements given by the client.
